SEARCY, AR (KAIT) -

A man is locked up in jail after investigators say he snatched $3,500 from a store clerk’s hand and ran.

Around 9 a.m. Friday, Searcy police responded to a robbery at the Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1330 W. Beebe-Capps.

Employees said a white man approached a worker at the customer service counter who was counting money. They said he then reached over the counter and “forcibly grabbed a stack of cash” from the employee’s hands, then fled the store on foot.

Officers responding to the scene spotted a man matching the suspect’s description and stopped him after a brief foot chase.

According to a news release from the police department, when police searched 22-year-old Nicholas Matthew Price of Searcy they found a handgun and $3,500 in cash, which was the amount reported stolen from the store.

He’s being held in the White County Detention Center awaiting formal charges of robbery, theft of property, possession of a firearm by certain persons, and fleeing.

As of this writing, a bond has not been set.
