A-State Track & Field claims 25 first place finishes at Red Wolves Open

Jonesboro, AR (A-State) – The Arkansas State track and field teams claimed 17 first place finishes on Saturday to close the Red Wolves Open with 25 top finishes in the two-day meet at the A-State Track & Field Complex.

Caitland Smith, who won the 200-meter dash on Friday, took home first place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44 seconds. The time ranks tied for the second-fastest in program history, atop the Sun Belt Conference, 15th in the NCAA West Region and 44th nationally. Smith also helped the 4x100-meter relay team to a first place time of 46.29 seconds, the sixth-fastest in program history.

Jaylen Bacon flashed a time of 10.29 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. He also ran in the 4x100-meter dash and the squad won with a time of 40.06 seconds, the second-fastest time in program history and a time that puts the squad in position to qualify for the NCAA West Region Preliminary.

The A-State men swept the hurdle events with Jamil Peeples winning the 110-meter hurdles (14.21) and Nick Hilson taking the 400-meter hurdles (52.25). Darragh May won the 100-meter hurdles (14.19) and women's high jump competitions (1.69m/5-06.50).

The Red Wolves claimed seven field event titles on Saturday. Itamar Levi won both the shot put (18.83m/61-09.50) and discus throw (54.85m/179-11). His shot put was a personal-best that ranks second in program history and moves him inside the top-10 in the NCAA West Region. Carter Shell, who won the long jump on Friday, won the triple jump Saturday with a leap of 14.28m/46-10.25.

Cristian Ravar Ladislau broke his own school record in the hammer throw and won the event with a throw of 68.73m (225-06). Calea Carr won the women's hammer throw with a mark of 56.82m (186-05). The Red Wolves swept the long jump competitions with Carter Shell taking the men's competition with a leap of 7.41m (24-03.75) and Arabriaun Mack winning the women's event at 5.60m (18-04.50). Michael Carr rounded out the field event winners with a winning mark of 5.27m (17-03.50).

Sarah Michael claimed the top spot in the women's pole vault, clearing 3.82m (12-06.25). The mark was a personal-best and ranks tied for eighth in program history. She climbs to second among her peers in the Sun Belt Conference with that jump. Calea Carr claimed her second title of the weekend with the top mark in the shot put. She posted a throw of 15.33m (50-03.50).

A-State travels to Memphis for the Tiger Invitational next weekend in the final preparation for the Sun Belt Conference Championships May 11-13 at Texas State.
