One dead, three injured in crash

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

According to Arkansas State Police, a Craighead County woman was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 18 west of Bowman.

Authorities said in a preliminary fatality report that Emmalei Nicole Utley of Caraway was traveling east on Highway 18 in a 2005 Pontiac around 1:30 p.m. Sunday when the crash happened.

The report noted that the Pontiac lost control, traveled into the westbound lane and was struck by a 2013 GMC truck head-on. The driver of the truck and two passengers were taken to a Jonesboro hospital for their injuries, ASP said.

The weather was rainy and the road conditions were wet at the time of the crash, ASP said.

The Riverside School District offered the following statement Monday afternoon:

"The Riverside School District is deeply saddened by the tragic passing of one of our students. Senior Emmalei Utley was in a fatal car accident, Sunday, April 22nd. We, as a faculty, met this morning at 7:15 to discuss this terrible situation and the steps the district would take in the grieving process for Emmalei's family, our students/faculty, and our respective communities. The administration also met with the senior class and provided time for grieving and reflection. Grief counselors are on site for our students and faculty and will be present the entire. The administration will be working with Emmalei's family on the proper way to honor her memory at the Riverside graduation on May 6th at 2:30. Our thoughts, condolences, and especially our prayers go out to Emmalei's family at this time."
