JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A woman is charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor after police say she took two small children with her on a weekend shoplifting spree.
A loss prevention officer at Dillard's, 3000 E. Highland, reported Saturday that 33-year-old Larena M. Jones of Jonesboro had been seen concealing merchandise in a large Kohl's bag and was attempting to leave the store.
Officer Zach Kaja, who was working off-duty security at the store, stopped Jones and placed her under arrest.
According to the incident report, Jones had two small children with her.
Kaja also noted that he contacted JC Penney about items that had been taken from that store, but said they declined to press charges.
Jones was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center where she was cited with shoplifting and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Jones was also charged with obstructing governmental operations after she initially provided Officer Kaja with another woman's name. While collecting information about her tattoos, jail staff reportedly learned Jones' true identity.
She was left at the CCDC in lieu of a $3,545 surety bond.
This is not the first time Jones has run into trouble with the law while caring for a child. In 2016, she was arrested after police say she tried to breastfeed a baby after testing positive for marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
