CAVE CITY, AR (KAIT) - The city of Cave City is working to establish guidelines for their cemetery after recently acquiring responsibility for it.
Mayor Jonas Anderson said for several years there was a cemetery board made up of volunteers who took care of the property.
Last year, those board members asked the city to take it over.
"Some of them were moving out of town, some were retiring, and they just didn't have time to take care of it anymore," Anderson said.
But any rules that had once been established for the cemetery had fallen by the wayside, so the mayor hopes to establish basic guidelines that can be followed there.
"Overall, we're just trying to kind of get a handle on how everything is laid out,' Anderson said. "During mowing season especially, if there's a lot of stuff all over the ground and everything it makes it really hard for the mowing crew to take care of it."
The mayor said these rules will be in place so the city can take care of the cemetery the way citizens expect it to be maintained.
Right now, Anderson is studying what other cities have in place to form Cave City's guidelines.
The city council will discuss this issue again at next month's meeting on May 24.
