LAWRENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Lawrence County officials say they've had a large number of people sign up to man polling sites for the upcoming primary election.

The county recently announced sites in Strawberry and Minturn would only remain open if there were enough poll workers for each site.

Now, thanks to many willing citizens those sites and others across the county have plenty of trained poll workers.

"Our volunteer rate has been extremely high this time," said County Clerk Tina Stowers.  "We've had 86 people already go through our polling site training, so, we're really pleased with that."

The poll workers trained on everything from using election machines to working with an electronic poll book.

Stowers said says many of the poll workers will likely work the November election as well.
