JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The weather was good Friday for fishing and a local pond will be full of fish due to the work of a state program.
The ASU Pond is now part of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission Family and Community Fishing Program, officials said Friday in an announcement.
The pond, which is south of Centennial Bank Stadium and near the Cooper Alumni Center on the A-State campus, will have fish added at least eight times a year due to the program.
Maurice Jackson, who is the director of the program, said the addition of the ASU pond is important for several key reasons.
"It was three years in the making to get that location. It's the only Family and Community pond without restrictions in this area, which means that anyone can fish it regardless of age," Jackson said.
In addition to the Jonesboro pond, the Game and Fish Commission also stock fish at the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center pond. However, fishing at that pond is limited to people under the age of 16, senior citizens and people who are disabled.
