JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The second annual Northeast Arkansas Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was held on Saturday.
The race began at Centennial Bank Stadium and thousands of people participated.
One group of women said they drove from Mountain Home to show their support for the event.
"It's just a way to say hey we're there with you," said breast cancer survivor Fran Patrick. "We're here to cheer you on."
Patrick and her friends are involved with a cancer support house and said they know events like this help many in Arkansas.
However, she said it's about more than fundraising for many who attend.
"I think that a lot of times people just want to reach out, they want to hold somebody's hand," she said.
Race organizers had a goal of raising $500,000 at this year's race.
