JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A group gathered to clean-up the Jonesboro City Cemetery on Sunday.

The effort was led by Arkansas State University's Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.

More than 20 volunteers showed up to clean gravestones as part of the service project.

This is the society's third time to clean-up part of the cemetery.

"We always like to do a service project to round out the semester and this seemed like a perfect spot since it's a historic cemetery, right in the heart of Jonesboro." said society vice president Edward Harthorn.  "It also helped preserve the history of the individual stones, but also the cemetery as a whole."

This is the society's third time to clean-up part of the cemetery.

"We often try to do a certain area and that way, it helps over time get the entire cemetery cleaned up," he said.
