JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A high school football championship ring that was lost 39 years ago was returned to its rightful owner Monday.

According to a post on the Jonesboro High School Principal's Facebook page, the Coach Don Riggs' 1979 JHS Football Championship ring found its way back to Region 8.

According to the post, the ring was found in the glove compartment of a 2010 Mercedes Benz in Holly Springs, MS that had recently been purchased.

The man who bought the car made contact with Jonesboro High School Athletic Director David Daniel to try and find its rightful owner.

The good samaritan sent the ring back via mail, and Coach Daniel presented it to Coach Riggs' daughters Pam Troutt, Libby Mackey, and Donna Wilson Monday in front of Don Riggs Hurricane Gymnasium.

Coach Riggs devoted more than 50 years of his life to Jonesboro Public Schools as a player, coach, and athletic director.

The post went on to say, "We are glad to have this memory of Coach Riggs find its way home. #CaneHistory #CaneFamily #CaneOTR"
