POINSETT COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Multiple law enforcement agencies in Region 8 have only male officers, and that can cause limitations out in the field.
There are certain situations where female officers are needed.
Some types of searches cannot be performed by a male officer on female suspects.
Fortunately, the Poinsett County Sheriff's Office has female detention officers they call out whenever necessary.
Something else that's helped is body cameras.
Sheriff Kevin Molder said if there is ever an accusation against a deputy, the entire interaction is caught on camera.
"The complaint can be unfounded based on the video," Molder said. "When someone lodges a complaint, the camera catches it all, so it's harder to file a false complaint."
Sheriff Molder said they have had female deputies in the past but the problem he's seeing now is an absence of female applicants when they do have available positions.
