ASU Equine Club held Pony Rides for Evacuees and Children

September 5, 2005--Posted at 4:15 p.m. CDT

Jonesboro, AR-- Hurricane Evacuees and their children had a little sigh of relief today as they got back in the saddle again.

The ASU Equine Club had pony rides and a cookout for the evacuees. Courtney Russell, knows they will be staying here, and said she planned the event hoping to introduce them to some of the community.

"We are out here, because there is nothing better than to see a child's face light up when they ride a pony or see a pony.  It's also for the parents, adults love ponies too!"

Courtney is president of the Equine Club and she says when she started to plan the event, the response to help was great. A few members of the Jonesboro Fire Department volunteered to grill hamburgers and hotdogs. Frito Lay donated chips and Pepsi was able to donate some drinks.

The pony rides were really about trying to give the kids something to do and to give them a little relief and get the devastation off their minds.
