Jefferson City,MO (AP ) - Governor Blunt declared a state of emergency in Missouri to free up more state resources to help victims of Hurricane Katrina. Blunt's emergency declaration is one of two related to Missouri efforts to help thousands of people needing help to recover from the storm.
The second order enables Missouri National Guard Adjutant General King Sidwell to send more troops to the Gulf Coast, as needed. Under the order, the state can be reimbursed for the
Guard's time and equipment from the federal government.
Blunt has mobilized 14-hundred Missouri National Guard members to help in rescue and recovery efforts.
