GRANT COUNTY, AR (KAIT/KARK) - An Arkansas couple is taking matters into their own hands when it comes to pets being left behind.

It's an issue that has been ongoing in their neighborhood for quite some time.

According to KARK, Monroe and Karen Wilkerson are beyond frustrated with this problem and say most of the animals abandoned are mainly dogs.

"If you drive down the road, you will see them dead on the side of the road where people dump them out. They get run over or shot," said Monroe. "It's kind of upsetting to know they just dump them out and don't care."

Recently, the married couple found three dogs lying in the grass dead just a little ways from their home.

Authorities say that they could have possibly died from natural causes or been purposely left behind.

Now they've gladly turned their home into a dog safe haven, they sometimes call the Wilkerson Dog Farm.

The Wilkersons not only have 11 dogs of their own, but also two mules, a horse, and a Razorback pig.

They say there is no limit to the number of animals they would allow into their family
