NEWPORT, AR (KAIT) - Gränges announced Thursday it will invest $26 million to expand its plant in Newport, quadrupling its workforce.
The company announced it will restart production of light gauge aluminum foil starting in the first quarter of 2019.
The company expects to invest $26 million into upgrading existing rolling mills and equipment, according to a news release from Gränges. It will gradually expand operations as upgrades are completed.
The expansion will create an additional 100 full-time jobs over the next two years, more than quadrupling its current 21 positions.
The Newport facility produced aluminum foil until 2015 as part of Noranda's rolled aluminum business. Gränges acquired the plant in 2016.
"This investment builds on our foil strategy as we invest to once again serve our light gauge foil customers and their growth plans," said Patrick Lawlor, Gränges Americas president. "It is great news not only for our future customers, but also for the local community in the Newport area."
