JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A woman accused of stealing nearly $95,000 from her employer reportedly told police she needed the money to help raise her two sons.
Phyllis Michelle Littlemyer, 39, of Brookland appeared Friday afternoon before Craighead County District Judge David Boling who found probable cause to charge her with theft of property-more than $25,000.
On April 13, the owners of Demo's Barbecue and Smokehouse reported Littlemyer, who managed their store, had stolen $94,308.61 from the store. The owners, according to the affidavit, provided documents showing the alleged thefts began in 2014 or possibly sooner.
According to court documents, Littlemyer would take checks from catering orders but show an invoice for just one sandwich.
"She would then take the remaining money for herself," the affidavit stated.
During an interview Friday with detectives, Littlemyer reportedly stated she had been taking money from the store for several years.
"She said that this money was used to help her raise her two sons," the affidavit said.
Boling released her on her own recognizance after the detective assured him that Littlemyer had been cooperative.
