POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) -

An event this weekend in Pocahontas has residents excited but also remembering difficult times over a year ago.

The Randolph County town is hosting its Founders Day celebration, starting the events Friday with a barbecue at the old courthouse. The town was also hit by flooding in 2017.

The flooding canceled the event last year.

Mayor Kary Story said the celebration has more meaning this year.

"This year, you know, it's just a relief at this point. It's kind of a celebration of everybody coming back together and remembering where we were and now where we're going," Story said.

A car show and the crowning of Miss Pocahontas is also set for Saturday.
