2.8 earthquake shakes Lawrence, Sharp County line

A small earthquake was picked up Saturday night by seismographs, according to officials with the University of Memphis Center for Earthquake Research and Information.

The 2.8-magnitude earthquake was detected around 7:50 p.m. Saturday, near the Sharp and Lawrence County line, northwest of Smithville. The earthquake had a depth of about 18 kilometers (11 miles), officials said in a preliminary earthquake report.
