LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT) - Buffalo Island Central East Elementary students were recently rewarded thousands of dollars for their hard work. Now, their teachers are deciding how to put that money to good use.

The school received an $8,283.24 Arkansas School Recognition Program Award for scoring in the top 6-10% in last spring's state test scores.

"We are putting that money right back into the students' hands because, without them, we wouldn't have gotten this award," Principal Nicole Stewart said.

Stewart said they have created a teacher committee to figure out how they will use the money.

One idea is to use the funding for in-hand technology for students.

"The teachers have suggested and students too that it would be nice to have an area outside of the building where students could go, and we could have an outdoor classroom and stuff like that," Stewart said.

Stewart praised the teachers and students who worked very hard to get the award and said it is well deserved.

In August, students will move into a new building.
