Mother sentenced after pepper spraying infant, husband

BEEBE, AR (KAIT) - Police say a mother pepper sprayed her infant and husband during an argument and is now sentenced.

According to the Beebe Police Department through a post on Facebook, officers responded to an apartment at 101 Arkansas Street on May 29, 2017.

Officers found a woman performing CPR on a 7-week-old child in the back bedroom. Police reported the "infant would take a breath then stop breathing for several seconds."

Paramedics arrived on scene and transported the infant to receive medical treatment.

During their investigation, BPD discovered the mother of the infant, Salandriea Steel, 25, of Beebe, got into a verbal fight with her husband and pepper sprayed him and the infant he was holding.

Steel was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor and domestic battery on both the victims.

She was recently sentenced to 36 months probation on the endangering charge, according to BPD. Meanwhile, the domestic battery charge was nolle prossed.

Steel was fined $1,360.
