BEEBE, AR (KAIT) -

Police say a man once employed by a university pleaded guilty to a charge of rape.

Beebe police stated in a Facebook post that Brent Allen Shifley, 56, entered the plea in White Court Circuit Court on April 4.

Shifley was arrested on Dec. 28, 2017, following an investigation by the Beebe and Cabot Police Departments.

He was sentenced to 27 years in the Arkansas Department of Correction. BPD stated Shifley is expected to serve about 18-19 years before being eligible for parole.

According to police, Shifley was employed by Harding University as an IT analyst with the Admissions Department at the time of his arrest.

Shifley faces a similar charge in the Lonoke County Circuit Court. He is awaiting an appearance in that case.

Editor's Note: A previous release from the Beebe Police Department identified Shifley as a Harding University recruiter. The department has since corrected the release to say Shifley was employed as an IT analyst.
