TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) - The Trumann Police Department is in need of upgrades to their dispatch center and they are hoping a fundraiser scheduled for later this month will help them prepare to buy it.
Assistant Chief Jon Redman said they have been looking to upgrade the dispatch console for a few months now.
"They're pretty expensive at about $30,000 so we thought this would help if we could raise a little bit of money for that," Redman said.
The fundraiser is Ford's Drive For Your Community.
Residents are asked to come out and test drive new a new Central Ford vehicle.
For each drive, the company will donate $20 to the police department.
"No purchase required and there's not going to be any haggling," Redman said.
He said dispatch is the backbone of the police department, so they need this upgrade.
"We can't do our job without our dispatchers and we're very appreciative of them and the job they do every single day," Redman said. "They deserve new equipment and we try to be the tip of the spear when it comes to technology and we want them to have the best technology available so they can do their job more effectively."
The fundraiser will be held at the Trumann Walmart on May 19 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
If 300 people show up for a test drive, the department will receive the maximum donation of $6,000.
