PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The Paragould fire chief said Thursday they're busting at the seams at one of their fire stations and are in need of a newer building.
The department wants to find a new location for Station No. 1.
Chief Kevin Lang said the station moved into its current building back in the 1990s but said the building is cramped due to housing the administrative offices and most of the equipment.
They've been searching for the perfect spot for around two years, he said. Adding a new building would allow the central station to operate more efficiently.
"We're looking for a location where we can build a station that has drive-thru bays, which are a lot safer for the guys to use and to just give us a little more space to use. You know we're out of office space, it's just pretty tight living, the building wasn't built to be a fire station," Lang said.
Several factors will come into play when looking for the new location, Lang said, including sustaining their ISO rating.
They'll bring their ideas to the Fire Committee on Monday, May 14, and then make their pitch to the full city council to receive approval for a land purchase.
