Special needs cheer group receives donation

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - An area special needs cheer team will be able to compete for the first time this year, thanks to the donations of a pair of groups.

On Sunday, the RPM Twisters Cheer Team received two checks - a check from the Miss NEA Sweetheart Pageant and one from the Autism Association of Northeast Arkansas.

The pageant, which raised $700, hosted a fundraiser for the team while the autism group donated $1,000. An official with the cheer team said the donations will help give the kids an opportunity to cheer.

"They don't have any competition fees, but it is a lot of travel expense on these parents to bring multiple kids to be able to support their athlete and so with that, it just lets everybody travel together," Rebecca Propst of RPM Athletics said. "Have a good time and do something that they love."

The support from the groups is crucial in helping the kids, and officials are thankful for the support.
