JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Jonesboro man is in jail after police say witnesses at the scene of a pharmacy burglary held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
On May 10, court documents state Jonesboro police officers were called to Gibson's Pharmacy, 403 E. Matthews Ave., just after 10:30 p.m.
The call was for a burglary in progress.
When officers arrived they found 27-year-old Dustin Dewayne South held on the ground at gunpoint by witnesses.
Those same witnesses told police they were hiding inside the pharmacy "due to the large number of recent pharmacy break ins."
The group said they heard glass break and saw South enter the business through a broken window and make his way towards the medications. He tried to run when he noticed people inside the pharmacy.
Some of the witnesses fought with South, while another pushed over his motorcycle to prevent him from escaping until police arrived.
Police reported finding a hammer at the scene used to break the window.
It was noted in the probable cause affidavit that this matches the suspect and motivation for at least five other pharmacy break-ins in Jonesboro in recent months where the businesses were damaged and pills were stolen.
South faces several charges including commercial burglary and theft. His bond was set at $75,000 on Monday.
