TRUMANN, AR (KAIT) -

One Region 8 community is leading a win-win initiative for businesses and the police department.

The Trumann Chamber of Commerce is encouraging businesses to donate water and sports drinks with their "Beat the Heat Initiative.”

The drinks will go to the Trumann Police Department to help them stay hydrated during those hot days of summer.

Chamber Executive Director Neal Vickers said businesses enjoy some free advertising as well.

“It's not a big contribution either,” Vickers said. “It doesn't take much for them to give us five or six or eight cases of sports drinks and water, but it really makes a difference in an officer's life out there every day.”

Vickers said it’s not only businesses that can contribute.

Anyone who is able to donate drinks to the police department can drop them off at City Hall.

Vickers said the city plans to continue the initiative for years to come.
