LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT/KATV) - Police are searching for a capital murder suspect after staff with the Arkansas Department of Correction mistakenly released him from custody in March.
They thought 32-year-old Andre Jackson had completed his sentence for another crime.
Jackson was arrested in August 2017 and charged with aggravated robbery and murder of Carlo Marigliano, an Italian tourist visiting Little Rock.
In a statement released to KATV on Monday, Solomon Graves, ADC spokesperson, said Jackson was discharged from their custody on March 16.
Gianni Sulmonte, Marigliano's cousin from Maryland, said he feels as if his family is being forced to relive their loved one's murder all over again.
"It baffles me. I mean some of these guys - if you were charged this way you may not be able to bond out, but this guy he just got woken up first thing in the morning and probably walked right out wondering what the heck just happened to me," Sulmonte said.
Jackson was due to appear in court on Monday for a hearing on a mental evaluation, an evaluation he never had, according to court documents.
A judge issued a new warrant for Jackson's arrest on Friday.
