CAVE CITY, AR (KAIT) -

The Region 8 News Team visited Cave City Elementary to hand over the May Teacher of the Month title to Jalisa Milligan.

Students and parents of the third grade teacher said Milligan is someone who goes above and beyond for her students both inside and outside the classroom.

"I feel amazed that they would choose me or nominate me to be teacher of the month," said Milligan. "It starts with parents with the students, and how well they behave. My students are always very respectful and I enjoy teaching them."

She said she's enjoyed teaching for more than a decade, after changing careers from business to education about 14 years ago.

Parents said Milligan is dedicated, even going as far as attending sporting events where her students play and accepting invitations to join a student at church.

"Know their interests. That helps me in the classroom be able to guide them and teach them," said Milligan.

Helping students succeed and grow at every level is what drives her every day in the classroom.

"Just knowing that your students remember you long after they have left your classroom is amazing and it makes your job makes teaching worthwhile," said Milligan.

She said she doesn't plan on leaving the classroom anytime soon.
