LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Lyon College baseball team’s postseason run came to an end on Tuesday night in the NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round as the Scots fell to Point (Ga.) by a score of 8-1. The Scots ended their season at 37-17, while Point improved to 36-24 and will play Keiser (Fla.) for a chance to take on Georgia Gwinnett in the championship game of the Lawrenceville Bracket on Wednesday.
The Skyhawks built an early lead against the Scots with five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Lyon chipped away at the deficit in the top of the second after a lead-off triple by Kyle West, followed by an RBI groundout by Tanner Seibel.
Point extended its lead to 8-1 with three runs in the bottom of the third. Tayler Harper doubled home one run, while Kyle Kelly drove in two runs with a single.
Marcelo Terrazas and Sam Murfin held the Skyhawks scoreless for the final five innings of the game, but Point answered with solid defense and pitching of their own to take the 8-1 victory.
Reese Chovanec suffered the loss on the mound for the Scots as he fell to 5-2 on the season. Murfin threw one scoreless frame of relief.
Andrew Sauceda, Kylan Barnett, Alex Miles, Tristan Buschow, West and Seibel all had one hit each in the game for the Scots.
