BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - The city of Batesville is working to get some grant money to help with important maintenance work at the Batesville Regional Airport.
Earlier this week, the city council gave permission for Mayor Rick Elumbaugh to apply for more than $500,000 in grant money from the Federal Aviation Administration.
It would be used to restripe and seal the airport's runway and update the lighting along the runway.
"It's been several years," Elumbaugh said. "We take great pride. You know, our industries rely on it. Bad Boy, Mark Martin, Lacroix Optical, and several others industries, as well as our recreational pilots, utilize that. So it's very important to our economics here in the city of Batesville."
The mayor said these improvements are also important for safety.
The airport commission has plans to have the runway resurfaced in 2022, according to Elumbaugh.
