PARAGOULD, AR - A house fire Thursday morning in Paragould claimed the lives of three children, according to officials with the Paragould Fire Department.

The fire occurred around 6:30 a.m. at a residence at 609 West Park Street.  Police and fire officials are still investigating the fire at this time.

Late Thursday afternoon police released the names of the two people renting out the small apartment.  Oval Haynes, Jr. and Micha Marler are listed as the main two residents at the home.  Police also say at the time of the fire there were five children in the home.  Haynes and Marler were able to rescue two of the children, but flames eventually pushed them back and did not allow them to rescue the others.

The Greene County Coroners office also released the names of the children who died in the fire.  They were identified as 2-year-old Jillian Sweaney, 3-year-old Gage Haynes, and 7-year-old Jason Haynes.

The preliminary investigation shows that the fire likely began in the apartment’s kitchen area, which is close to the front door.

Paragould Police say they will release more information when it becomes available.
