Man sentenced to 7 years for internet stalking, child pornography

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A Delaplaine man who sent nude photos of himself to a 15-year-old girl and traveled to Jonesboro to engage in "violent sexual encounters with her," was sentenced to 7 years in prison.

Second Judicial Circuit Judge Tonya Alexander sentenced Stephen Craig Nix to 84 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction and 60 months suspended imposition of sentence (SIS).

The ruling came after Nix pleaded guilty to internet stalking of a child and computer child pornography.

Alexander also ordered Nix to pay court costs and fees and to register as a sex offender.

Police arrested Nix in February at a Jonesboro hotel where he had gone to meet a 15-year-old Trumann girl he had been chatting with on Facebook.

Investigators said Nix "repeatedly sent nude photos of himself [and] videos of himself masturbating" to the girl.

He also reportedly "stated that he was fantasizing about engaging in very violent sexual encounters" with the child.

Unbeknownst to Nix, he had been chatting with an officer with the JPD's Internet Crimes Against Children Division.

After being read his Miranda rights, Nix told detectives during questioning that he had sent the messages, photos, and videos to the girl. But, he said he did not intend to have sex with her.
