JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - As a Level 3 sex offender, John Michael Garner is required to report every time he moves from one home to another. Every time.
But, police say the 51-year-old Jonesboro man failed to tell them of his latest change of address.
According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Office, Garner's registered address is in the 200-block of County Road 777.
However, when Deputy Jeania Byrd went to check on his compliance earlier this week, she discovered that Garner had moved to a home on North Church Street in Jonesboro.
Byrd contacted JPD which sent Officers Tyler Williams and Scott Byrd to the Church Street location. When they knocked on the door of the mobile home, according to the report, Garner opened it.
Deputy Byrd arrived on the scene and asked Garner why he did not inform her of the move.
Garner reportedly said his sister kicked him out of her home and he was staying at the Church Street location until he could find somewhere to live.
The officers then took Garner to the Craighead County Detention Center where he was booked on suspicion of failure to register-failure to comply with reporting requirements.
According to the CCSO, Garner was convicted in 1995 of first-degree carnal abuse. At that time he was assessed as a Level 3 sex offender, meaning he is at a "high risk" to re-offend.
