JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The annual Region 8 Employment Expo kicked off Thursday morning at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.
Around 20 vendors set up booths to meet potential employees.
Vendor Dana Gay with DNL, Inc. said it was a great opportunity.
"I think it's great," Gay said. "So far, we've seen a lot of people come in interested in what we do which is the construction industry and skill trade. So, I've met a lot of people who are interested in getting into our field."
Jonesboro resident Darius Newsome said he came out to see what possible jobs were available.
"I just wanted to come out and see what all the expo had to offer," Newsome said. "When you come to a job expo there's a lot of job opportunities. I wanted to see what kinds of jobs were out here to be offered, send in my resume and talk to some people. I also wanted to learn about new skills and new opportunities. I'm just venturing out trying to find a job or career. So, I thought this would be a great opportunity."
Gay said job fairs like this are a great resource when it comes to meeting possible employees one on one.
"We're having a hard time finding people who are interested in construction," Gay said. "And we really just wanted to meet people to make them aware that the construction jobs are really on the rise and they can have a good career in construction. It gives you exposure to people who are looking to get into the workforce. You can tell them about the business you have or your trade and just bring awareness and get your name out."
Newsome said he left with a number of valuable contacts and found the event helpful.
"There's a lot of information, a lot of new information," Newsome said. "Find out about some jobs I've never even heard of that are in the area. I'm thinking about going online and sending in some applications and resumes. There's a lot of jobs out here I'm currently interested in so I'm glad I came out."
The event was open to the public and took place from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
