JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A group of young ladies from Northeast Arkansas was introduced to society Saturday evening.

The Kappa Nu Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated hosted its first Debutante Ball Saturday evening.

Girls elegantly dressed the part as they took the stage to be recognized.

Each girl has learned many things through the process of becoming a debutante.

"There are several different things we have hosted with them," President of the sorority, LaCarla Denny said. "One of them is social media preparedness. We've also hosted different types of etiquette events and then there's also a session for the young gentleman escorts that participated tonight as well."

The ladies participated in a waltz, a dance and linked arms with the young escorts and their fathers when introduced on stage.

Proceeds from the dance will go back to the sorority's effort in bettering the community.

"All funds that are donated by the young ladies will go to support our targets, such as education enrichment, we also have a target of childhood hunger and then we also try to focus on community service," Denny said.
