LITTLE ROCK (AP) - The number of hurricane refugees in Arkansas is down to about 50-thousand today. Governor Huckabee estimates that the numbers dropped to that level from a peak of between 60-thousand and 75-thousand people several days after Katrina hit.

The governor's office said refugees moved out of shelters and church camps to the homes of friends or family or have returned to their own homes in parts of the Gulf Coast where residents were being allowed back in.

Nearly five-thousand people remained in church camps in Arkansas and an unknown number in shelters.
