CORNING, AR (KAIT) - The Corning City Council held a special meeting to discuss solutions to the town's drainage problem.
Around 35 people attended because the council was discussing digging at the local cemetery as a possible solution.
This is the second time the city has discussed digging across the cemetery.
However, many residents spoke against the project, saying the cemetery is sacred ground and digging there may cause flooding on the east side of Corning.
Corning Mayor Rob Young said during the meeting, council once again voted against digging at the cemetery.
"We all decided to go north through the ditches and you know around that way and it shouldn't flood out the east side of town," he said.
Mayor Young said crews will continue working on drainage on the north side of town.
He said residents and council did agree if this solution does not fix the drainage issue, crews will begin digging across the cemetery.
