INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Officials have been able to determine the cause of a power outage that hit several counties Thursday night.
Entergy Arkansas customers in Independence, Izard, and Sharp counties were impacted by the outage.
According to a post on the Entergy Arkansas website, nearly 14,000 customers were without power at the height of the outage.
David Burnette, a customer service manager with Entergy Arkansas, said it appeared to be an outage in the transmission system that affected several substations.
"When an outage like that occurs, our automated transmission grid system immediately begins to isolate the fault and redirect power from other sources on the grid," Burnette said in a statement to Region 8 News. "The outage affected thousands of customers for about 10-15 minutes while the system completed switching to redirect the power."
