PINE BLUFF, AR (KAIT/KATV) - A meeting took place in Jefferson County to discuss consolidation for three different schools.
The Pine Bluff chapter of the NAACP hosted the forum.
Ivan Whitfield, president of the chapter, told KATV there's a state of emergency in their education system and that putting these districts under one governing body would be positive for students.
"Let's face the fact that our enrollment is down, our number of residents in our city has gone down and we must awaken to a better education for our children," said Whitfield.
Representatives from the Arkansas state government attended the meeting as well as people from each district.
The NAACP's main objective is to jump-start positive dialogue on workable solutions dealing with consolidation within the districts.
