(KAIT/NBC) - As summer is quickly approaching, people will be heading to the pool to enjoy the water.
However, with that enjoyment, there is also the danger, officials said Friday.
Doctors have said that drownings are the number one cause of traumatic death for children under the age of five. The danger helped an emergency room doctor to create a product he says can help avoid tragedy.
Dr. Graham Snyder said the product helps children avoid drowning.
"Seal Innovations makes a wearable technology that protects children from drowning, what it does when children wear the band, it notifies the lifeguards and the parents instantaneously of their status," Dr. Snyder said.
If a child is under water for a certain period of time, a siren and strobe lights will also go off.
The company is also working to begin selling the items on an individual basis.
