JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A woman and her family reached out to first responders to say thank you on Saturday.
Holly Mabie says for the past three years, she has held the cookout lunch inviting more than 100 people.
She said area businesses donate things like food and door prizes to help make the event possible.
She began hosting the event after suffering a stroke.
"I was told I wasn't going to make it, this is my way of saying thank you," she said. "I give all the EMTs, everything with the first responders, my life because without them, I wouldn't be here to see my kids grow up."
The event takes her about nine months to plan, but it's all worth it.
"They say thank you for us, but they don't realize that it means more to me because they're just getting a burger, but they saved my life," Mabie said.
