SEARCY, AR (KAIT) - Authorities are investigating an incident Tuesday afternoon in which a man was shot while attempting to escape from a robbery attempt, according to Searcy police.
Searcy police went to the 800 block of West Woodruff around noon after getting a call about shots being fired in the area, department spokesman Steve Hernandez said.
As the officers went to the area, they got a call about the victim who was at a nearby local business.
"When officers arrived, they found a 27-year-old male victim that had been shot in the lower back area. The victim stated that while at the residence on West Woodruff visiting a female, two black males attempted to rob him," Hernandez said. "He stated that one male was already inside the residence when he went in and the second suspect was outside when he came back through the front door attempting to get away from the first suspect. As the victim ran from the residence. the suspects shot at him, striking him once in the lower back and grazing him another time also in the back."
The victim, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Both suspects were described as black males in their early 20's, Hernandez said.
