JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A multi-use trail in the heart of Jonesboro will help provide a strong future for both Jonesboro and Arkansas State University, officials said Wednesday.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday at the east side of the new bridge over a Turtle Creek lateral on Aggie Road near the Circle Apartment complex.

Officials have been working for some time on a biking and pedestrian trail through the city of Jonesboro. Now, the work on the project is at a key stage.

"I want to stress that today isn't the end of the road. This section is part of the eventual campus loop within our university's master plan for the pack paths," A-State Chancellor Kelly Damphousse said.

Damphousse recently said the university has submitted a grant to complete the other half of the loop of the trail.
