JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro fire official says the fire that destroyed a Dollar General store was the result of arson.

Jonesboro Fire Marshal Jason Wills confirmed the findings with Region 8 News on Tuesday.

Wills also said the case has been turned over to the juvenile courts.

No other information was immediately released about how the fire started or who may have started it.

Both Jonesboro police and firefighters responded to the fire at the Dollar General store at 101 East Johnson Ave. on June 22.

Fire officials said the store was a total loss and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Officials also reported people were inside the store when the fire began, but everyone was able to make it out of the store safely.

At the time of the incident, Jonesboro Fire Chief Kevin Miller said the fire, as well as the summer temperatures, created a situation in which the department had to call in off-duty firefighters as well as rotate firefighters in and out of the area on a regular basis.

One firefighter was injured battling the fire by becoming overheated but was treated and released, Miller said.
