SEARCY, AR - The two emergency rooms in Searcy will be reduced to one under an agreement reached by the city's two hospitals.
The larger of the two, the non-profit 245-bed White County Medical Center, plans to buy out its smaller, for-profit neighbor, Central Arkansas Hospital, which has 193 beds.
Financial terms of the deal, which is expected to become final this fall, weren't disclosed.
The smaller hospital will continue to function under the new arrangement, but as a rehab and psychiatric center and without its emergency room.
White County Medical Center has plans to expand.
