LITTLE ROCK, AR - Introduction of a broader bill by other senators has prompted U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas to withdraw legislation she had offered to help states recover the costs of services provided to Hurricane Katrina victims. Lincoln said yesterday that a new health-care package introduced by Senators Charles Grassley of Iowa and Max Baucus of Montana was more comprehensive than her initial amendment.
Lincoln said the federal government should do all it can to give states the peace of mind to know that they will not be shouldering the financial burden alone.
Arkansas Health & Human Services Director John Selig said he would welcome any method that assures the federal government helps states pay for the services.
