JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The announcement of Sue's Kitchen moving to Caraway Road after more than 30 years downtown highlights the growth of that area of Jonesboro.

Restaurant owner John Williams said the recent excitement surrounding Caraway factored into their decision to move there and they obviously aren't the only business who has recognized that.

Earlier this week, Texas Roadhouse announced they will be adding a new location in Jonesboro, at 1900 Caraway Road.

"Caraway Plaza is 130,000 square feet and in the last 12-18 months, we've signed new leases with Natural Grocers, we've opened Homegoods, we've got Five Below opening in the next two to three weeks, Hallmark is open," said Gary Harpole, development specialist with Halsey Thrasher Harpole Real Estate Group. "And we're now at 97% capacity, mostly with national tenants, in this shopping center."

Harpole believes the comeback for Caraway Road actually began back in 2014 when the Kroger Marketplace opened.

Since then, the area has taken off and gotten what he calls its second life.

"We've seen a tremendous amount of excitement going on in the past, like I said, 12-18 months," Harpole said. "I know that there are other properties being redeveloped and I think Caraway Road is back now to stay for another generation."

The realtor expects that Caraway Road will have another few years of strong redevelopment to make it the retail center of the city.
