SHARP COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

According to Sharp County Sheriff Mark Counts, the third suspect in an escape earlier this week from the Sharp County jail is now in custody.

Randall Paul Sledge of Conway was arrested Friday by Kansas State Troopers after the escape.

No details about the arrest Friday were available.

Counts said earlier this week that two jailers were off the job as investigators look into how three men escaped custody.

The jailers are on administrative leave as the investigation continues.

It seems the jailers did not do head counts during the midnight shift, according to Counts.

"Anytime, something like this happens, you want to make sure that your jailers are doing their jail checks and that they're making sure that the headcount of everybody is there and that's the problem that I've got with my jailers right now," Counts said.

While Counts admits that his jailers were at fault for the escape, he said the age of the jail also played a role.

"We're talking about an older-model jail, where we don't have electronic doors, where it's key entry, you know," Counts said Thursday. "We're just a facility that's outdated when it comes to security."

Counts said the three men were able to pull up a fence and crawl out of the jail, noting authorities believe the trio also had help from a trustee.

As for the future, Counts said he is optimistic that voters will approve a sales tax on the November ballot that will allow officials to build a new jail.

Robert Lynn Pollard of Evening Shade and Christopher John Frey of Horseshoe Bend were arrested Wednesday night, while authorities had been looking for Sledge until the arrest Friday.

The inmates somehow unscrewed the deadbolt from the jail door and then pulled a fence up outside the door to escape.

Counts said Wednesday that authorities now believe Sledge is in a red Cadillac Escalade, with an Arkansas tag number of 031 XKU, headed to or in Missouri. Authorities have sent out alerts to surrounding states about Sledge.

Earlier Wednesday, jailers discovered the three men missing while conducting morning checks, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Counts said earlier in the day Wednesday his office pinged a phone associated with the escaped inmates to Horseshoe Bend where an Arkansas State Police trooper got into a chase with them and they abandoned their vehicle.

Dogs with the Arkansas Department of Correction then joined the search.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office set up a roadblock at their county line and deputies are showing every driver that comes through the pictures of the escaped suspects.

Pollard, according to the sheriff, was incarcerated for fleeing on foot, escape, possession of a controlled substance, and alcohol-related charges. Sledge was being held on charges of fleeing in a vehicle, fleeing on foot, and was being held for other agencies. Frey was in custody on suspicion of criminal use of a prohibited weapon, possession of a controlled substance, and theft by receiving.
