Multiple crews respond to fuel tank fire at rural Bernie farm

BERNIE, MO (KFVS) -

Multiple crews responded to a fire in rural Bernie on Wednesday, July 11.

According to Bernie Police Chief Justin Allen, several fuel tanks caught on fire at Lowery Farms on Highway Z and County Rd. 779.

Bernie, Dexter, Lilbourn, New Madrid, Scott Co. Rural, Advance, Bloomfield fire crews all responded and assisted.

Some firefighters got checked out for possible heat exhaustion as a precaution due to the humid conditions and the large fire but no one was injured, according to Bernie Fire Chief Leroy Stockton.

Around 1:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to the fire.

The cause of the fire was due to a pop-off valve failure and then when the power was shut off, the four tanks caught fire.
