(KAIT/NBC) - Are your utility bills painfully high during these hot summer months?
There are "smart" ways to beat the heat without breaking the bank.
Sharon Profis with CNET recommends the Nest Thermostat-E for about $169.
It learns your routines and adjusts to when you're home.
Control it remotely if you go on vacation.
You can even connect other gadgets to your smart thermostat, like smart shades which can automatically close during the hottest parts of the day.
"Another way to save money and cool down your house without using your HVAC system is with smart shades," Profis said. "At our smart home, we have Lutron Serena Shades."
Many of these smart devices can be linked to a voice assistant, acting as a hub to allow devices to work together in a routine.
